I'm a little behind on this post, but I am honored to announce that I will be a part of the resin group show at Super 7, this Saturday Aug. 21. I cannot thank Cliff and Sean enough for seeing something in my work that made them want me to be a part of the show, but it's great. It's amazing to be able to show with all the guys that got me into resin figures.

Liver Diet at Comic Con 2010

I was lucky enough to make the trip to SDCC this year. I bought my tickets so long ago I kept forgetting I was even going. The event was really great, I got to talk to a ton of great artists, hand out some of my toys, made a few new friends and spent a big stack of money I had saved up.

I was really bad at taking pictures, since there was so much going on but thankfully my brother got some good ones so here's some of my favorite photos.

Day one, after waiting a few hours in different lines to get in, the first place I headed was to the grasshut booth! It was really great meeting Bwana and Le Merde, I'm a big fan them so it was great talking about their work.

Early Friday Mark Nagata from Max Toy Co. was showing at Rotofugi. Mark was a super nice guy, I ended up buying a custom Tripus. These things looked amazing.

Cliff and Sean brought a ton of awesome work. The Onell booth was a huge hit, and was definitely my favorite booth at SDCC

By Saturday i was a little worn out by all the SDCC madness, but I woke up early one more time to catch Paul's release of his first vinyl figure Boss Carrion. Ended up hitting the ATM so I could purchase one of these guys. I picked up a standard release but this photo shows some of his amazing hand paints. Complete with magnetic baby!

Here is my expensive haul from SDCC. It was worth every penny. I'd like to Thank Lamour for meeting up with me and selling me that bootleg before his signing. It was a big want of mine and it looks amazing. He was also a really nice guy and even showed me an awesome new project he's working on. Also a big thanks to John Spanky Stokes and Cliff & Sean. Thanks for being so nice to me and introducing me to some other people. You guys definitely made my trip to Comic Con worth it.

Also a big thanks to my girlfriend Jackie, although i didn't MAKE her come she decided she wanted to with me. She never really understands why I collect and spend so much money but she also had a blast and put up with all the madness with me. She even said she wants to go next year!

I've been working hard on getting my next figure done, along with trying to enjoy our 90 degree weather everyday. I wish I could present Gus in this post but I still have lots of work to do, and SDCC comes up in just few days so I don't really have the time. So here are some sneak peeks, lets hope next year I'll be selling some stuff at SDCC.

Multiple Livers

Thanks to Buster Bear I was invited to be a part of this group show downtown. The show was entitled Center Of Multiple Middles. Here's a description of the show that I didn't write...and some pictures from the show.

"This is an experiment in decentralizing the curatorial decision making process and letting an exhibition be formed by the interactions and exchanges that take place within a space. In dissipating the traditional curatorial hierarchy to multiple participants the result is an all-encompassing organism that takes up the entirety of the allotted space. In some instances individual artists are showcased but those areas are blurred through the superimposition of other pieces and melding together of multiple artists works. The participants of this exhibition are a diverse mix of people that range from professional artists, art educators, skaters, art students, a computer programming student, strangers off the street, the mother of one of the artists and the child of another.This space will remain active for the entire length of the exhibition. Some of the participating artists will always be present in the space either adding to the exhibition or creating new work. This exhibition will have several stages of transformation beyond the opening reception and many coordinates where work, activities and intersections may hinge and shift."

The space was an on going project that was changing as artist worked. Many of the artist had been working in the space for about a month. I was invited about two days before the show, so most of my work was made in the few days before the show.

The show was really great opportunity, I met some awesome people and got re-motivated to make a lot more work. This show will be moving to Harold Washington College in Aug. It will be a new space, same idea. I think I will be doing a large arm paintings for the show but who knows. Thanks Alex and Alberto for giving me a chance to work on this project.

Liver Diet In Haiti

At the end of May I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Haiti. I was working at an orphanage. My trip consisted of building beds, making art work with the children, enjoying the company of 40+ amazing orphans and having an experience I will never forget. Now I have 500+ photos plus the photos from other members of my group. So I'm gonna try to keep the post short and informational? I've been putting this post off for a few weeks just because it's overwhelming trying to explain my trip. I will never be able truly explain what it was like to visit Haiti and how much of an impact the community and orphans had on myself. (Many of my photos are not resized so when you click on them they will probably be huge sorry, but I just didn't want to take the time to resize all of my images)

My group consisted of 9 people. The group I was working with is an independent group called Restore Haiti. It was started by My girlfriends mother Martha Walker about a year ago after visiting this Orphanage in Haiti. So I knew most of this group before the trip. All 9 of us brought two 50lb. bags of donations (clothes, etc. ) plus are two carry ons

Juan was our taxi driver. It was a 4 hour drive from The Dominican Republic to the Boarder of Haiti. (we had to fit all of our bags in this one van)

I arrived to the Orphanage to see all the kids watching tv ahah. I laugh because we had sent the TV back home with Pastor Willio (owner of the orphanage) when he came to visit America. They don't watch tv all day but it was still bizarre to see all of the kids sitting in front of the television.

The last group to visit the Orphanage installed this solar panel. They are very fortunate to have this since very few people around the area has electricity.

These are the beds we purchased for the Orphans. You're probably think we could have gotten them something better and I said the same. The thing is beds are so uncommon in Haiti that it was hard to even purchase these. We bought them in the Dominican Republic and the bunk beds cost around $200 a piece. The price was so high because no one is looking for beds out there, it is considered more of a luxury. Willio explained to us that he didn't have a bed till he was 27 years old. So the children are quite lucky to get these beds at such a young age. What I learned while spending time at Orphanage is that these children are lucky to be able to live where they do. They have a roof over their heads, two to three meals a day, electricity, TV!, and now beds. They are definitely spoiled compared to the neighborhood children, but they deserve it. It is amazing to see how something as simple as a bed can affect someone's life so greatly.

The beds were just wire frames that locked into each other. The problem was they didn't fit very well. It took us about an hour just to build the first bed. After we got down a technique we built the rest pretty quickly.

On Sunday we went to Church. The service was about two hours, full of pray and singing. It was a great to witness.

But many of the children would play with us instead of listen. ha

I also got to do a little site seeing. We went to Fort Liberty one day which was the fort of the French when Haiti fought for their Independence. There is also a near by island. We were told this island was "where the poor people live", it was hard to believe since most of Haiti has very little. You have to take a boat to get to this community. Many people that lived here use to work at a factory that is now closed. So all of these people live on the island with extremely limited resources. To see how these people live was quiet a shock.

Another main focus of my trip was collecting drawings from the Children. The drawings are then later used to make products to raise money for the Orphanage.

The kids, love drawing and it's really inspiring as an artist to see what they want to show on paper. We gave them bags to make little puppets, but we also have plenty of drawings on paper to scan in.

I sat down and drew some pictures for the kids. Some of them kept them and some tried to turn them in as there own drawings ha. Also many of them started recreating my drawings which was really fun/funny to see. Here are some scans of some collaborative drawings and drawings they made of some of my characters. (mostly walruses)

This is Myson, He has cataracts on both of his eyes. He is an amazing child. They have recently raised enough money to get his eyes fixed so he will soon be able to see.

Nano is a 3 year old who won over all of our hearts. He lost his family to the earthquake and is one of the 11 new Orphans taken in after the tragedy in Portauprince. He was born with the talent of drumming as you can see in this video.

I've been pretty behind on blogging, not much is going on right now trying to finish up school. Then my whole life goes in reverse...moving back in my dad's house and working as much as I can to save up for supplies to make some new figures and save for Comic Con. The line was pretty long for the signing..I actually didn't even get to trade sketches, I was suppose to be in class and Kirby was nice enough to let me cut the line to give them my drawings and snap this photo. I came home to this CD this weekend. I ordered it from CDbaby which is the weirdest site ever if any of you have used it. But DJ FUNK is hands down my favorite person from Chicago...I have to support him and the chi town juke.

Movin out!

Kevin was moving out this weekend, we both have lived in the same house our whole lives...I guess we have to grow up eventually and he moved out officially. I will miss him a ton especially since I am moving back in a few weeks. But I figured I would make him some toys as a house warming gift. As a toy artist those closest to you seem to receive them last. I am always too busy with my work to make some for my friends and family but I figured it was the least I could do to say good luck!

Went to Rotofugi this weekend for the Hello Brute and Apak show. There was a lot of great work and I got to meet and chat with both artists (well all three). Even got to get my nerdy resin chat on with Jon. (it was great meeting you!)

I finally got my palm pre fixed. I forgot how much I liked my phone because it hasn't worked right since the first month I got it. But I got a new one and it looks all nice. I hooked it up with this awesome hollis background.

I'm not gonna lie it was really hard to draw something up for someone else, but after a few different attempts, I loosened up and made this. Had a busy/crazy weekend but it was a ton of fun. I wish I took more photos than I did but I'll let you know what went on.

I started a 4x4 foot burger king painting for my pop culture class. I took a way different approach than everyone else did. Instead of critiquing pop culture I embraced it with my love for the KING

I also got some new toys yesterday. I received my package from Monstre Cliff for the trade we did. He sent me two victims, I didn't know these guys were so big. And the way they are made is just amazing. I was lucky to score a slimed victim (on the left) before they released.

Tomorrow (3/23/10) School Sux editions of each of my figures will be released in my shop here!

Each figure is painted with a ski mask like many of my drawings. This has been something I wanted to do for a while. I'm sure i will make an actual ski masked figure sometime in the future but for now it was fun just to paint them on. There's only one each so don't sleep on this!

I don't know why they are wearing mask or why they hate school so much but they can't be up to anything good.

Now that I think about it Sam would is probably the only one in school.

I've been listening to way too much WGCI, and getting no sleep. Last week was crazy at school, I had a bunch of stuff due. But it is all over now so I got a week to relax. Also it is getting warm in IL so things are lookin up!

I did this soft sculpture of a giant freak arm for my core class. People liked it for some reason, actually I like it a lot too. I just don't know what to do with it now. Here are some more pictures of it.

It's been pretty shitty lately, but I got some good stuff to post about. I applied for my passport this weekend. It cost way to much money to do that. Anyways I'll be going to Haiti in May with Jackie. It should be a really awesome trip. I can't wait.

Hmm where to start...

Tried to photograph these paintings again, it's almost impossible. I need to learn how to photograph shit. They look really great in person the resin makes them look really shiny. Oh well I guess photos will never do justice. I can only submit 5 pieces for the Under 21: show so I guess I have a bunch of extra work...non of the figures I painted will be in the show I think they will all go out for trades now.

A long time internet friend Jake got a drawing I did for him as a tattoo. It's pretty awesome that he did this. Ha I think it's crazy that people will put my artwork on their body. Although before Jake the only people who have was family. But I really love this it makes me happy.

Toy Nerd New:
Le Merde has a new figure coming out for his Gargamel show in Japan. I don't even think I will be able to get my hands on one of these but it's pretty amazing. The Hujili sculpt is really funny looking he looks a little more clean cut with a nice hair due. Also the arms and legs are from other Gargamel toys. I think it's a really funny interpretation of Le Merde's sculpts. I need to get this somehow.

And he posted this amazing custom. I'm getting depressed thinking about how I will never own one.

Busy with school again, but trying to pull some paintings out of my ass along with school work. Blah blah here's some pictures of whats been going on.

I use to draw a lot of stickers, I don't really know why because i never out them in public. But I sent them to a lot of cool people. Anyways this guy I traded with once sent this collab to me to finish. So I drew up the sad walrus. He said he was gonna send it to one of those sticker street art books. Maybe it will make it in?

I first off want to thank anyone who purchased one of my toys this weekend. Pizza Man actually sold out. Just last summer I was making my first mold thinking it was never going to work. Now I'm sending packages across the U.S It's really awesome and I appreciate the support from everyone that ordered a toy and the resin artist I have been talking to about my work.

There's a lot of other new stuff going on right now. I have some toys I need to paint up for some trades. I was also asked to submit work in to this Art Under 21 art show in a gallery here in Chicago. Nothing is set in stone but here's some preview shots of the paintings I'm working on for it.

Sam Sickmen & Pizza Man Feb. 5th

Figures are done and ready for release. These characters were built around this idea of these weird dirty creatures/people living in some suburb. They are sculpted crudely and painted messy to fit the style and ideas I had for this line of toys. I worked really hard to make them reflect my art work more. Hope you like them. Feel free to buy them here.

Pizza Man’s Love for pizza is the cause of his lost arm. After a drunken night he ate his pizza so fast he didn’t realize he had eaten half of his arm off. The most tragic part is, he had perfectly good slice in his other hand…Is that pizza sauce or blood on his face? We will never know.

Backside. All 4 pizza men were painted different. They all have a different jackets and other little personal touches.

Sam Sickmen is the ugliest kid you will ever see. He chooses to have awful hygiene to hide his parent’s wealth. No matter how bad he smells he still wearing the nice clothes his parents bought him. Sorry Sam you’re not fooling anyone.

Thin Crust

I've been going to bed at 2 or 3 everyday and setting my alarm for 9, trying to get some stuff done. I thought I was on Winter break, oh well once school starts I won't have time to do anything cool or make anything I want so I'm taking advantage of all the free time I have.

I have to thanks ATL Remix and Hudson Mohawke for giving me some awesome Jam's to listen to while I work into the middle of the night.

ATL RMX is some album Adult swim put out with PSP Beaterator game. It was a free download and an awesome album click here for a download link or just listen to the whole thing on their site. It's so great. I love The Dam-Funk track(the last one) it's the best!

And Hudson Mohawke's Butter album. I've been listening to this album non-stop it's so crazy! I can't explain what it sounds like but basically the Album cover sums it up pretty well. Click HERE for his BBC essential mix he did. It has some songs from his Butter album on it, and it's an hour long so you should go listen to it.

A day full of regret.

So since Tommy is in town Kev decided to buy him a tattoo for Christmas. He told me he had wanted to get one of my drawings on him for a while so I kinda redrew an old drawing he liked so he could get it on his arm. And for some reason Kev decided to get one too!

The drawings...I drew up Tommy's on Christmas and then spent the next night redraw one for Kev over and over. I never know what I am doing. I hope they liked them. ha

Regretting it already.

Done. and psyched. Like Doug said, "You can only get your nipple tattooed once."

Doug's snake Neil wanted to eat me.

Tommy's next. This was his second tattoo, it's been almost three years since his first one. We both got out first tattoos together. I was 16 ha, He's obviously the smart one out of the Erst Boys. He's the only one who isn't quickly covering his whole body. Oh well. DGAF!

The finished products. Doug did an amazing job, and he's probably the only guy I know that could redraw my drawings so well. If you need a tattoo done you should probably look into going to House of Ink in Wauconda IL Thanks Tommy and Kev for the awesome day it means a lot to me that you guys wanted to do this. I hope you never regret them. Or you do I don't really care to be honest.

I have fallen way behind on my blogging as usual. So now I am up in the middle of the night trying to catch up with everything going on.

Christmas was great here's some pics of what happened and the gifts I got.

All of the gifts I gave looked like this. I am terrible at wrapping, but at least I can put cute drawings on them.

Kev's gifts were wrapped in these pathetic drawings. He still managed to have a NUB ass Christmas.

Tommy flew in from SF to be with us on Christmas. He got a Mr. Odobenus from me. (I feel bad for him) His header was extra bloody.

Christmas night was spent at my moms. She loves Christmas so her house looked all nice.

My mom also has three dogs. (two greyhounds and a terrier) She got them way too many toys for X-mas as you can see.

One of my many great gifts. And a nice cup of sparkling grape juice to go with it. (NUB!)

I made these masks based on our "second skin" assignment. They were made so that the person wearing the mask could still be seen and identified but the person wearing it would feel hidden in front of an audience.

My class wanted me to wear them while I presented which was awesome. My sculpture teacher took all these pictures so I thank him for them. This last one came out super creepy.

My first semester is coming to an end, and I have WAY to much work to do. Anyways I always give Kev crap about updating his blog. Then he told me I have to room to talk since I never update...and he's right. So this one goes out to kev, a mini update before I get down to business this week with some final school work for the semester.

Tj sent me mail a few weeks ago. It had a sweet envelope full of all my favorite things. (ahah can you spot the dick pizza?) I had to scratch out our address so you don't send us hate mail..or anthrax.

On Halloween I got an awesome package from WEKILLYOU. He's been holding all of my purchases recently to send them all at once. When I first got into toys I stumbled apon Justin's work and I instantly had to have his ghost boy figure that was coming out. That was last year a little before Halloween, he released 4 figures that month all in a row. Knowing how the whole resin thing works now I find that project extremely ambitious. But besides the fact I bought his toys every week and I still buy every figure he puts out and anything else people are putting up for sale. Here's a picture of my whole collection.

Ha I look at my collection and can't help but think I must be paying Justin's rent just by everything I buy from him, but I find it hard to pass up anything he releases.

These are all the new figures I got in my package. I mostly wanted to write to talk about how awesome these guys are. From sculpt to colorways I am really blown away by how good these guys look. Justin's work has only been getting better and better and the style on his newer figures really seem to stick out from anything else resin or vinyl toy artist are doing. Especially in this BLAMO custom he recently did

Justin made this one of a kind "Pumpkadet" custom from two molds. I sent Justin a custom Mr. Odobenus and I was lucky to get this in return. This guy is extremely awesome and I'm so psyched to own it!

On the note of toys, heres a little photo of what else I have been picking up with the little cash I have.

I really don't collect much vinyl anymore, but I find Le Merde's Hollis the best toy ever! I think it is mostly the size he's so tiny be looks amazing and the fact that he is only $25 if you can get him from Super 7. The colors are bold and it really captures a Le Merde resin in this little vinyl figure. They are still in their bags cause I'm waiting to get a few more colorways I'm missing. But I had to post a picture cause this toy is awesome. I wish more toy companies would take note in what SUPER 7 is doing, cause their small family figures are killin it! Also on Le Merde, Giant Robot's Biennale went on sale last week. Lots of awesome work from 3 of my favorite toy artist check out the shop...but don't even think about picking up one of those Le Merde Resins...(I'm saving up for one)

One last thing, I've been sketching up for my next releas. Sculpt should be done before thanksgiving (if I can find the time) I plan I doing a bunch of sculpts of some sketches I have and picking a few to cast. Here's two sketches of some characters I'm working on.

Sorry for the "long time no blog" status. I have of course been busy with school and work and all that life stuff. So let me catch you guys up on some stuff.

Last week I was thinking about my good friend Jake, He's been in El Salvador for a few months now. I miss him a lot. He made me this sweet booty house mix tape to listen to before he left.

I felt my walkmen did not do justice to this awesome tape. So I did a little custom to it.

I got some images of some school work, I wish I could scan in a few things I've drawn this year but I'll post what I have snapped photos of.

Pen and Watercolor. There is a third drawing to these bu it doesn't fit in my scanner, maybe I'll find some time to go to the big scanner at school and scan it in.

My teacher wanted me to build a pedestal for this instillation I wanted to do. So I did. I'm actually really proud of this thing, I almost didn't want to paint it white. It wobbles a little but I still think this thing alone is the best thing I've ever made!

Mr. Odobenus version 1

Mr. Odobenus was a summer long project and my first resin figure. He will be up for sale this week.

Some amateur sketches, before i started sculpting. It took me two different attempts to sculpt a figure that was easy enough to cast.

Odobenus is a series of 6 figures. Two Black Metal editions and 4 original versions. Both hand painted with acrylics and given a nice shiny clear coat.

I've been really busy with school, actually I still am, I should be doing homework right now. But I thought I'd post some pictures so I don't fall too far behind on my blogging.

Toy Karma II @Rotofugi

I went to Toy Karma II at Rotofugi Saturday night for the opening. There was a lot of great work I wish I could have bought. Anyways here are some pictures, you should check out the show for yourself if you're in the area. If not at least check out Rotofugi's site here. I'm sure what didn't sell at the show will be for sale soon.

There was a lot of great work there and I have a ton of pictures, but here are a few of my favorites.

Starting a blog for my art and adventures, also updates on any resin figure work I do.

I started college this week so i haven't had too much time for posting and working on my stuff, but here are some pictures of the move in and my first resin figure in a quick summary.

Last week I made my first cast of the figure,

My first figure was based of the walrus character I draw a lot, the mold is far from perfect but I
was happy getting a couple figures made
.
First cast made, poured way to much resin, just had some sanding to do.

So I spent the rest of last weekend casting and painting some figures and working on some paintings for a small art show in my friends apartment.

69 bros and some casts,

first two painted, black metal style.

I'm starting my first year at SAIC (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) I just moved into the dorms right in the loop.

my parents helped me move in, I have to climb a ladder to my bed, it's pretty awesome.

Hung up some art at my friends place.
